~Maicah Cruz~

Maicah Cruz, an awesome dancer and winner of the 100-fan giveaway contest! She's a fun girl with some great moves, not to mention also a fantastic model! She is super cute (and tiny) but can blow a crowd away.  Like always, these are just a few of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Yay! My first article!

I'm happy and excited to announce my photo is featured in bakitwhy.com's article on Jacksonville's Filipino Pride Day. Here it is:

Filipino Pride Day 2011

A quick overview of Filipino Pride Day 2011in Jacksonville, Florida.
Article by Raymond Brown
October 10, 2011
On October 1st, 2011, the Southeast was home to an amazing celebration of culture, arts, and entertainment as Filipino Pride Day took over Jacksonville, Florida.  The event sought out to not only display the unique culture of the Philippines, but to also raise funds for four charities that work tirelessly to provide services to the Pilipino community locally, nationally, and globally. People poured in from everywhere along the south to take part in the event and I, myself,  made the four and half hour trek in my very old yet very reliable green Chevy truck. It was definitely worth the drive.
The event is set up along one continuous street perpendicular to an adjoining street where all the Pilipino cuisine booths were located, along with a side stage for entertainment.  The main stage is at the heart of the event, where audiences gathered to support their favorite entertainers throughout the day.  Vendors and tents lined the stretch of the event including everything from Pilipino inspired clothing, to various Pilipino organizations and networking forces.
Within the building, many took advantage of the free health screenings, where numerous medical teams worked to provide a service that many do not have the opportunity to receive.  As I walked by, you could see the overjoyed faces of those taking part in the health screenings.  I could overhear a conversation as I passed by the tables that, although very short in words, had a huge impact in meaning.  As a man stepped on the scale he told his attendant, "Thank you. That is all I really can say," as she replied, "That is more than enough."  Children ID kits were also available inside as kids, some more reluctant than others, had their pictures taken.  Around the walkway of the semi-circle building, various art pieces were displayed as part of a silent auction as well.
Various talent stepped to the stage in front of thousands.  Each hour was separated into a group of performances, starting at 11am and going well on until 10pm.  Everything from singing, to dancing, and comedy hours were implemented to show a dynamic array of entertainment.  Newcomers to the stage, such as Aly Rose, who started off the 12pm hour, were very nervous to combat the crowds for the first time.  In addition, returning entertainers came back to remind audiences of their talent such as Aaron Caras, Kimberly Millare, Ian Bautista, Dancell, A-Vibe, Kathryne Lopez, the Philippine Performing Arts Company of Tampa and many others.  The crowds really started to enlarge as the 5pm hour came around, where international star, Karylle Padilla would be hosting a TFC segment along with Michi.  As soon as she took the stage fans cheered and celebrated their way to make it on stage for a chance to appear on TFC.  The TFC segment included an adobo tasting contest, in which, Tita Miles' Kitchen and Bakery came out as the winner. Karylle even took part in a dating game, where young men hoped to win her over with their suave sayings and their "unique" dancing.  Following Karylle, comedian Orlando Sadsarin took the stage to provide some laughs, followed by Ryan Bandong's band Mitchell Grey, putting on a intense performance as they continue to win over fans on their crazy nationwide adventure.  As day turned to night, hip hop acts took the stage along with Filipino Pride Day 2010 Champ Systematic.
Personally, this is an event I have looked forward to each year since its beginning in 2009.  I love watching how the event grows every year to provide even better entertainment and service to the community.  Living in the Southeast, I'm not accustomed to seeing such a massive gathering of Pilipino culture.  It is good to know that the south/southeast can represent the beautiful history of Pilipinos just as well as the West Coast can, if not better! (West Coast vs Dirty South?)  Either way, only in its third year, this event is just starting out.  I'm ready to see what the future holds for Filipino Pride Day.

Filipino Pride Day

October 1, 2011 was the annual Filipino Pride Day (FPD) held at The Jacksonville Landing, and my goodness does Florida have a whole lotta Filipinos! If you haven't been to FPD, I suggest you plan to go next year. You know Filipinos, they like to do it BIG when it comes to parties. That's just what FPD is... a HUGE party! There's lots of food and entertainment to last an entire day. Vendors line the entrances selling clothing and food. Colleges and career schools are available to speak with you one -on- one have you the urge to get that degree. Haven't been to a doctor lately to get your annual health screen? No problem! The Philippine Nurses' Association (PNA) is available to check vitals, glucose levels, and answer any health questions one may have. It's an awesome time! This year was my first time going and it was a blast! I forever will be an annual FPD-er. Would just like to thank FPD for giving me the opportunity to photograph such a wonderful event. Come join the party next year!

Jacksonville ~ exposed!

I've grown up in Jacksonville just about all my life and never really explored it. I know it's a beautiful city and it doesn't get the credit it deserves. Photography has opened my eyes to the world around me and it starts here in Jacksonville. In case you live(d) in a shell like I have, it's time to get out there and discover your hometown! It truly is a beautiful place!

I have yet to explore the rest of downtown Jacksonville. These shots were taken in just a few blocks of each other. There's soo much more to see!

And then there's the actual beach.  Jax and Atlantic Beach are yet to come...

Stay tuned for another chapter of my hometown explorations!

Oh, Baby!!

Is it me, or is everybody getting pregnant these days?  Talk about a baby boom!  I heard in the news that the slump in the economy is giving rise to all these pregnancies.  Yeah, that's because doing the boom-boom is free! But then again, it does help the economy.  Did you know that raising a child from birth to age 18 averages about $240,000? That's a WHOLE lotta money! (I know y'all remember that quote!) Anyways, I had the opportunity to photograph a few good friends that caught the pregnancy bug.  Blue tanked girls are having boys and the pink tanked girl is having a girl.  In case you were wondering. Surf Irene!

This past week, Hurricane Irene passed about 300 miles east of Jacksonville and brought some beautiful waves along with her.  I was hoping to get at least one photo in for the Salt Life Big Wave Challenge.  Not sure if I achieved that, but I got some awesome pics anyways.

The best a daughter can have..

I'm extremely grateful for my mother.  She is kind, loving, generous, strong, independent, and of course- beautiful.  She means the world to me and it'll be tough to get along when she leaves for the Philippines soon.  I loved photographing my mom.  We had so much fun doing this photo shoot.  It's always a good time filled with laughter whenever we get together.  These are moments I will cherish forever.  Love you Mom.

Austin Keanu

I knew I wanted to get serious about photography when my little boy Austin was born.  I knew I just couldn't let time pass us as quickly as everyone said it would because before I know it, he'll be going to school, driving, a car, and becoming a man of his own some day.  So, I took my camera and took pictures of each and every detail of him.  I wanted to capture that moment in time and hold on to it forever.
